How Actor Olumide Bakare Finally Lost Out To Poverty

...the late Olumide...on his sick bed...Nigeria just lost another talent...

“So Olumide Bakare finally died? He finally lost out to poverty. And he solicited for help but very few looked towards his direction. May his soul rest in peace”.

That was the message PMParrotng received from a veteran actor who wants to remain anonymous after the news of the demise of equally experienced actor, Olumide Bakare broke on Saturday morning.

The actor who sent this in was so angry and sad because he said it was the ‘system that killed my friend’.

Olumide had gone in for an operation at the University College Hospital, Ibadan and the process had gone fine only for things to degenerate. And the talented actor died on Saturday morning.

Another friend of Olumide who is also simply called Olumide also expressed his opinion on the demise of the late Ijebu, Ogun State born actor.

His words “We should all cover our faces in shame. We all saw him suffer. His illness started in 2013 and had to be rushed to the same UCH again sometime in January, 2016 and he has been in and out of the hospital since then. He was said to be suffering from what UCH consultants called ‘Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm and Pulmonary Embolism’. They said it had to do with blockage in the vein that takes blood to the heart.

“Since that time, he spent so much money managing this ailment. He reached out to so many Nigerians to help him but very few people responded. Now that he has finally lost out, that is the end.”

When PMParrotng contacted UCH to reconfirm the events that led to the death of the actor, the spokesperson for the number one tertiary health institution, Deji Bobade said “Our people here, including surgeons, nurses and others did their best. He had been on treatment here since 2013. But personally, I feel sad. He was like a brother. I did not see him this time until I just heard he passed on. May his soul rest in peace.”

Olumide Bakare who died at the age of 64 is survived by four children, two boys and two girls – Olabode, who is a pastor in the United States of America; Oluwamayowa, a businessman in Lagos; Oluwatofunmi who is in 400 level at the Ado Ekiti State University and Halimat.

His first born, Olabode is about 40 years. He had him when he was 23 as a student of the University of Ibadan.
