...Governor Amosun...in the act of rescuing Mrs Idiat Babalola from the angry Ede youths...

The sleepy town of Ede, the country home of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, the first Executive Governor of Osun State, was on Monday enveloped with tears and gnashing of teeth as his remains were finally laid to rest.

The deceased was finally interred according to Islamic rites around 11a.m.

Sympathizers, friends, family members, political associates as well as those who were touched by his sudden death could not hold their emotion as tears were flowing freely from their eyes.

Indigenes of Ede and supporters of the late senator were raining curses on those who were alleged of complicity in his demise.

Specifically, the Ede community was hostile to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were at the burial as they accused them of having a hand in the death of “DEGOV” as he was fondly called over his 2018 governorship ambition in the state.

It took the intervention of the Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, the younger brother of the deceased, Dr Deji Adeleke and combined security operatives attached to them to rescue an indigene of the town, Mrs Idiat Babalola, who is also a commissioner nominee under Rauf Aregbesola government from the irate youth who descended on her.

They hurled abusive words at the woman politician as she hurriedly left the Adelekes’ compound amidst harassment and hatred speeches from the sympathizers.

Also, there was no member of the Osun State Executive Council in attendance at the burial perhaps, intelligence report accounted for absence of the State Exco at the burial.

It also took quick intervention of the police to rescue Hon. Mudasir Ayanfe, a member of APC and the media aide of Prof Mojeed Alabi, member of House of Reps who was abducted by irate youths at Ede.

The youths claimed Ayanfe is part of those who killed Senator Adeleke.

Among those at the burial were the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu and his predecessor, Olusegun Mimiko, the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and some of the senators among others.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Government has declared three days of mourning over the death of the first civilian governor of the state.

In a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Office of the Governor, Semiu Okanlawon, the government directed that flags should be flown at half mast to honour the Late Sen. Adeleke.
