In order to further restructure the educational sector, the State Government under the leadership of Senator Abiola Ajimobi has launched the Oyo State Model Education System Interventions (OYOMESI) programme.

The Oyo Mesi agenda, which is an initiative of the office of the Special Adviser on Education to the Governor is being done in collaboration with the government efficiency unit and office of the Secretary to the State Government.

While launching the programme at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr (Mrs) Bisi Akin Alabi explained that the purpose of the programme was to prepare students in the state for a knowledge-based future through the use of technology to create a participative, transparent and responsive learning environment that would improve the quality of basic education and promote independent and lifelong learning, especially from primary to tertiary education.

She added that the programme would also ensure that education practitioners have access to appropriate quality assurance framework that supports delivery of outstanding academic outcomes with effective compliance, monitoring and enforcement drive to sustain its implementation as well as improving teachers’ capability and efficiency.

According to Dr Bisi Akin Alabi, “the OYOMESI agenda is part of the repositioning, transformation and reformation agenda of the government. You know that education is key in finding solution to all the social economic problems in our society. What we are trying to do is to ensure that the education we give to our children is fit for our purposes in our society. We don’t want a gap between what they are learning in school and what they really need to become employable and civic citizens because it is only citizens who are civil that are governable which is very desirous for us in Oyo State.” She concluded.

Earlier in his key note address, the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Ismaheel Olalekan Alli explained that the OyoMesi agenda would further  enhance the government’s efforts and determination to revive education in the state.

The programme was also attended by the Chief of staff to the Governor, Dr Gbade Ojo, the Head Of Service, Mr Soji Eniade, Commissioners, Special Advisers and Assistants in the cabinet of the Oyo State government, members of the Oyomesi project committee and other stakeholders in the education sector.
