The Chairman of Nasarawa United Football Club of Lafia, Isaac Danladi has announced that only the Federation Cup is good enough for his team this season.

Since his emergence as chairman of the club, Danladi has guided the solid miners to the quarter final, semi final and final of the annual Federation Cup competition and last season, the Lafia based team, came so close to sipping from the giant trophy only to lose on penalties to FC Ifeanyi Ubah, a defeat that left Danladi distraught and shattered.

“It’s one match I really don’t want to remember. We came to Lagos confident of lifting the cup but lost on penalties and left empty handed Danladi said grinning his his teeth.

“It has been a steady rise for this team. Three seasons ago, we went out in the quarter final, two seasons ago we lost to Akwa United in the semi finals and last season, we lost on penalties to FC Ifeanyi Ubah. It is not out of place therefore if we begin to dream big.

“We need to win something this season for the government and people of Nasarawa state. The state governor, his Excellency Tanko Al Makura has been very supportive, his deputy Silas Agara has always been there for us too, so we must seek a perfect occasion to say thank you and there cannot be any better platform to do that than on the final day when hopefully, we will hand over the trophy to them he concluded”

It will be recalled that three seasons ago, Nasarawa United finished third in the NPFL and had their second thirst of continental action with their participation in the CAF Confederation cup competition. That experience ended abruptly as the miners failed to advance into the group stage.

Danladi is determined to revive those memories by winning the 2016/2017 federation cup, which automatically guarantees a confederation cup ticket.

The Miners took the first step towards making that dream a reality on Sunday, when they pipped Aklosendi FC by a lone goal in Lafia.
