...Leon Balogun...his services doubtful...

Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles may have to do without the services of Mainz 05 defender, Leon Balogun for their forthcoming international friendly against Corsica and Togo in France due to injury.

The 28-year-old had only recently returned from a two-month injury lay off; featuring only six times for the club since his return in February.

The right fullback had to replace after 18 minutes in the Bundesliga clash between Cologne and Mainz at RheinEnergieSTADION on Saturday afternoon.

The Nigerian International has also been starved of proper game action, completing 90 minutes football in only two league matches in 2017 – and four matches for both club and country.

The initial prognosis is that Balogun sustained a thigh injury which might keep him on the sidelines for at least two weeks.

In the coming days, Balogun will be subjected to tests to determine the severity of his injury and the time frame for his return to training.

William Troost-Ekong, Uche Agbo and Chidozie Awaziem are the remaining central defenders named in Nigeria’s roster for the friendlies with Corsica and Togo.

Balogun was invited as one of seven defenders for the Super Eagles friendly matches against Corsica and Togo on 26 May and 1 June respectively.
