Brightville Shines At Oyo School Athletics Meet

Brightville Gold Academy, Ibadan has won the maiden edition of Oyo State Secondary School Sprint and Relay Championship which held at the Lekan Salami Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The two-day meet attracted 10 schools from Ibadan zone and they competed in 100m, 200m, 400m and 400m relay race for boys and girls. Among the participating schools were Brightville, Abadina College U.I Ibadan, Government College Ibadan, St Annes’ School Molete, International School U.I Ibadan.

At the end of the competition which had the acting general manager, Oyo State Sports Council (OYSC), Mr Gboyega Makinde, the chairman Oyo State Athletics Association, Dr Isaac Friday Ogada and others in attendance, Brightville Academy emerged winners.

Brightville Academy inspired by Aderoju Waliu and Oladosu Pelumi in the boys and girls categories respectively dominated the 100m, 200m and 400 relay races to emerge champions. The school won 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals to edge out their competitors.

Speaking with  newsmen after the presentation ceremony, the acting GM OYSC, Mr Gboyega Makinde advised the young athletes not to rest on their oars while advising that they make discipline their watchword.

In his own submission, Dr Ogada assured that the competition will continue to bring on board athletes who will replace the ageing ones and restore Nigeria’s lost glory on the track.

Five athletes, Kazeem Sadiq, Bolaji Adewole, Sulaiman Taofeekat, Aderoju Waliu and Oladosu Pelumi were awarded scholarships for their outstanding performances.
