Four persons were on Tuesday killed during a robbery attack that affected three old generation banks in Iwo, Osun state.
It was gathered that those killed during the robbery operation were three policemen and one suspected armed robber who was gunned down by the police.
The banks the dare devils attacked are First Bank, SkyeBank and Sterling Bank. The three banks are very close to the Bowen University.
It was also gathered that some of the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) at the banks were reportedly removed by the hoodlums but it was not clear if they took the machines away.
According to an eye witness account: “Armed robbers attacked the banks in Iwo today. They came this evening and first went to the police station and attacked their men there. After that, they went to the area where the banks are located and carried out their operation.
“They killed three policemen and the police also killed one of the robbers. It was a terrible day here in Iwo.
“I think the banks were aware that they could be attacked because they have been closing by 12noon for the past two months or thereabout.
”The hoodlums were forced to flee and abandon one of the vehicles they used for the operation when the police reinforced”
