Top Clergies Back Oyo FA’s ‘Soccer For Christ’ Tourney

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and top notable Christian leaders have reiterated their support and pledged their backing for the Oyo State Football Association’s Soccer for Christ Under-16 Championship as the stage is set for the unveiling of the tournament.

The historic public presentation of the tourney otherwise known as ‘Salvation Cup’ according to the Oyo FA boss who also doubles as the main organizing committee chairman, Chief James Odeniran has been scheduled for Thursday 8th June at the main-bowl of Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Ibadan.

Odeniran added that the idea behind the Salvation Cup is to use soccer to unify churches in the state and gain the minds of youths for Christ, saying the official tournament T-Shirt would be unveiled, saying official prayer session would also be held for the success of the tournament.

Among dignitaries expected at the unveiling are the officials of the CAN Oyo State Chapter, the first vice President of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Seyi Akinwunmi, the President of Nigeria Referee Association (NRA), Tade Azeez, The Commissioner for Youths and Sports in the State, Yomi Oke, notable Church leaders and seasoned sports administrators.

The competition which was designed to be played right from the local government level before getting to the zones and state’s final in order to reach every nook and cranny of the State was organized in conjunction with NITO Sports.

Churches of various denominations have signified their interest to be part of the historic tourney, as teams are expected to register their players individually according to the Oyo FA boss “So that we can be accountable to every participant with reasonable rewards for the winners”.
