The Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Osun state, Mr Adelani Baderinwa has said that the present federal system of government is hampering the progress of the country.

Baderinwa said the restructuring of the country should be based on the principle of true federalism which recognizes the government at the centre and the federating units, which are the states with absolute financial, resources and governance ideological freedom.

Addressing former Directors of Information of local governments who have now been made Media Coordinators in the state civil service at the State Government Secretariat, Osogbo on Thursday, he said that Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s persistent call for restructuring and true federalism is borne out of his passion for the development of Nigeria and his clear understanding of federalism.

Baderinwa stated that genuine federalism was eroded by the military interregnum, adding that the military command structure was introduced into the Nigerian system of government which was directly washed away true federalism.

The commissioner explained that the restructuring of local government system in the state was a practical move by Aregbesola to demonstrate the federalism, saying that local government is never part of the federating units but a coordinating centre for a state constitutionally.

He said before 1965, there was nothing like local government workers as federalism was well in place, saying that what was on ground then was federal and state governments services.

Baderinwa said everybody must support the call of restructuring of Nigeria to bring back the golden days of massive infrastructural, moral and socio-economic development.

“Not until restructuring takes place in the country, we will continue having issues about governance, ethical and religious crises, underdevelopment, among other issues”, he said.

Urging the media coordinators to continue serving the state efficiently, Baderinwa called on them to maintain their integrity and credibility which made them to be outstanding among their colleagues in the service, saying that they had so far served diligently.
