Belgian First Division A side, Standard Liege have confirmed the signing of Nigeria International defender, Uche Agbo, subject to medical fitness, with some reports suggesting it is a three-year deal for the 21-year-old and others that it’s a loan move.

Agbo spent three years at Udinese prior to joining the Hornets on a five-year deal last summer, but has spent each of the last three seasons playing his football at Granada.

He played 53 times for Granada’s B team, before breaking into their first team in his final year in Spain and he made 31 appearances in La Liga last season.

It will be a new challenge for Agbo this year, though, as he looks to help Standard Liege improve on their ninth-placed finish in Belgium’s top-flight last season.

Liege’s sporting director, Olivier Renard, was delighted with the acquisition. “Uche is a young midfielder with good energy and good ball recovery.

“He played for the most of last season in the Spanish league, now he is ready for a new challenge and will offer more options for our team.”

Agbo was called up to the senior Nigeria squad for World Cup qualifiers near the end of 2016, but missed out on the more recent squads.
