Saudi Arabian Professional League club Al-Ahli Saudi FC have announced that they have completed the signing of Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona.

A statement by Al Ahli on their Twitter handle over the weekend said: “Official: Nigerian defender Oboabona signed a 1-year contract with Al-Ahli. #AHLIFC.”

Oboabona’s former Turkish side Rizespor were relegated to the lower division at the end of last season from the Turkish Super Lig.

Oboabona is joining Al-Ahli as a free agent after he ran out of contract at demoted Turkish club Rizespor at the end of the 2016-2017 season.

The 26-year-old has spent the last four years of his career with Rizespor, whom he joined from Sunshine Stars after helping the Super Eagles win the 2013 African Cup of Nations.

He represented the national team in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Oboabona will likely come face to face against another Nigerian making waves in the ‘Jameel’ league in the person of Patrick Eze who had five assists to his credit for Al-Qadisiyah last season.
