Oyo SARS Commander Bags Media Award, Dedicates It To IGP

In recognition of the numerous achievements of the Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Oyo State Command, SP Sola Aremu in crime bursting, an Ibadan based media outfit, Happy People Magazine had bestowed an award of excellence on him.

And, the gallant officer has dedicated it to the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

In an elaborate event held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ Press Center, Iyaganku, Ibadan which had many crime reporters in attendance, Oludotun Ajibola, the publisher of the magazine said the award is to value people who have helped sustain the enabling environment we are enjoying in the state now.

It would be recalled that the men of the Oyo SARS was responsible for the curbing of the notorious ‘One Millions Boys’ that recently terrorized the city of Ibadan and the arrest of a thug popularly known as Ekugbemi who also tormented some sections of the town.

“SP Sola Aremu and his men have demonstrated gallantry in bursting crime and never relented in engaging robbers and kidnapers, which led to the arrest of the hoodlums in multiple numbers, the development is responsible for the peace we are enjoying in Ibadan and its environs,” Ajibola said.

While speaking about the SARS Commander, Mr. Kayode Ogun, the Manager of the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Ibadan, described him as an officer and a gentleman. “He does his job with a lot of dignity. If every police officer works like him, we’ll have a much better society”, he said.

Inspector Joel Adeyemo, who spoke on behalf of the members of the Commander’s team described him as a “disciplinarian and an intelligent officer”.

In his acceptance speech, SP Aremu, who hails from Omu Aran, in Kwara State, expressed happiness that “people around us know the importance of security. Without your support, policing the state may be difficult but with the information you provide us, it becomes easier”. He thereafter dedicated the award to the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command and the people of Oyo State.

Aremu, an Accounting graduate of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force on August 15, 2002 and was posted to Oyo State Police Command as a Cadet ASP on completion of his training at the Nigerian Police Academy Wudil, Kano. He also served with the United Nations in Sudan for three years.

He was appointed by IGP Ibrahim Idris as the Commander, SARS Oyo State Police Command in 2016.
