Insecurity In Oyo: Lawmaker Tasks Newly Rebranded/Inaugurated ‘Operation Burst’

A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ibadan South East Constituency II, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige has tasked newly rebranded and inaugurated security outfit code named, ‘Operation Burst’ by the present administration in the State to ensure total eradication of all forms of brigandage, armed robbery and other violent activities in the State.

Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige stated this while reacting to the inauguration of the new Board of Trustees for the State’s Security Trust Fund headed by the Deputy Governor, Operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Chief Adebayo Adelabu and inauguration of the newly reconstituted State’s Joint Security Task Force, ‘Operation Burst’ by Governor Abiola Ajimobi at Idi Arere which is one of the hot spots for violence in Ibadan on Friday.

Hon. Ademola Ige equally commended the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Michael Adeyemo and other members in the House for amending the Trust Fund Bill which had paved the way for private sector involvement towards the sustenance of peace in the State.

Hon. Ige expressed his happiness that this action by the government came barely two months after he moved a motion on the floor of the House on the need to put an end to the incessant night robbery attacks on innocent citizens within Ibadan metropolis when the rate of robbery attacks on innocent citizens of the State particularly in Ibadan South East Constituency became rampant and residents in this locality were having sleepless nights as a result of the activities of these marauders.

Hon Ige who recalled with sadness that the activities of these criminals in the last one and half years in the state, has claimed the lives of many citizens including one of the members of the Assembly, Hon. Gideon Aremu who was until his death, the chairman House committee on Security. He was gruesomely assassinated in front of his house.

Others killed violently included security night guards, police officers and other innocent citizens at Ibuko (IMG school), Molusi, Olorunsogo, Molete, Keshinro, Onigari, Adeyemo,Eyin Grammar, Odinjo, Academy, Odo Oba, Aperin Oniyere, Kudeti, Yejide, Felele axis and so on, while other people were equally dispossessed of their valuable belongings and property worth millions of naira.

He, however, explained that with the inauguration and reinvogoration of the Operation Burst by the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the government has further demonstrated his commitment to nipping security challenges in the bud, stressing that this step has signaled the end of the road for rampaging miscreants, robbers, burglars, rapists and perpetrators of violence in the state.

Hon. Ige equally enjoined members of the Board of Trustees of Security Trust Fund to use their contacts, connections and wealth of experience to raise funds for government in order to ensure the success and sustainability of peace in the State.
