Nigeria Football Federation’s Technical Director, Bitrus Bewarang has blamed the entire home based Eagles after the team fell 1-0 to Benin Republic in a CHAN 2018 second round, first-leg qualifying match on Sunday.

Mama Seibou converted from the spot in the 89th minute to give the Squirrels a first leg advantage, however, Bewarang insists the Eagles could have done more to kill off the game.

Speaking after the game played at the Stade de Mathieu Kerekou, the Former Coach identified the Midfield and Attack as the chink in the Eagles’ armor.

“It’s a big lesson for us that we need to up our game. I think the coaches need to do more especially in the midfield and our finishing.

“Let’s not panic, thank God we have the second leg. As the Technical Director I’ll pass on my observations.”

Meanwhile, Bewarang refused to blame Algerian Referee, Mustapha Ghorbal despite several “questionable calls” and insists the Salisu Yusuf-tutored team must up the ante in the reverse fixture as he expects a tougher game.

“I hate to comment about officiating especially as a Coach. I don’t use such excuses to defend my loss. Yes we’ll observe the questionable calls, but what we need to do is go back and correct the technical aspects.

“We’re playing home, and I know they have a good record away but we’ll learn from all those lessons,” the NFF Technical Director explained.
