The Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon Suraju Adekunbi has enjoined Muslims in the State and Nigerians in general to use the festive period to pray for continued peace and progress of the State and the entire country.
Adekunbi, who gave the charge in an interview shortly after observing the Eld-Kabir prayer at the Ayetoro praying ground, underscored the essence of prayer and support of the people for the success of government policies and programmes.
Canvassing for their cooperation to engender national unity, the Speaker stated that there was need to promote mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and National cohesion for all round development.
He appealed to them to imbibe the teachings of the Holy Prophet, which according to him included thanksgiving, personal sacrifice, piety and selflessness at all times, stressing the need for the restoration of the virtues of good neighbourliness among residents of the State.
He appreciated the Muslim Ummah for their support and prayer which had greatly assisted the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led government in the delivery of people-oriented policies and programmes aimed at transforming the state.
Adekunbi while describing Governor Amosun as an exemplary and visionary leader, reiterated that the Assembly under his leadership would continue to prioritize the socio-economic development of the State.
The Speaker while commenting on the forthcoming 2019 general elections, enjoined all politicians and their followers across the State to embrace peace and prioritize development of the State with a call on them to put aside personal interest, noting that the State was known for political maturity in all ramifications.
Earlier in his sermon, the Chief Imam of Ayetoro, AbdulGaniu Ajakore advised Muslim faithful to continue to promote peace and tranquility, love one another , be tolerant as well as abide strictly with the teachings of the Holy Quran and Prophet Mohammed.
