Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the governor of Osun State has charged judicial officers in the state to further inspire confidence in the judiciary in order to strengthen democracy.

Aregbesola said the role of the judiciary towards the sustainability of democratic government can never be over-emphasized, thus informing the need for the judicial arm of government to be strengthened by all and sundry.

The Governor gave the charge while swearing-in the newly confirmed members of the State Judicial Service Commission (JSC), at Governor’s office, Abere, Osogbo.

The newly sworn-in JSC is chaired by the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo while the President Osun Customary Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Gloria Olagoke, is appointed as the Commission’s Secretary.

Other members include: State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Bashir Ajibola, former members House of Representatives, the duo of Hon. Nathaniel Agunbiade and Hon. Olarotimi Mikail Makinde. Others members of the commission are Mr. Oloruntomilola Christopher Olagunju and Mr. Abel Oyewale Olutayo.

Governor Aregbesola had on July 23 sent a letter comprising the names of the then nominees to the ‎State House of Assembly for confirmation and ratification while the nominees were confirmed and announced for induction by the State House of Assembly on September 11 this year.

Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, Governor Aregbesola charged the newly sworn-in members on the need to inspire confidence in state judiciary.

Aregbesola said the need to inaugurate the new members of the Commission was to further strengthen the judiciary and to ensure that this arm of government is properly run and repositioned.

According to him, what we are doing today is to further showcase to the world the link between the three arms of government, particularly as they are relevant to the development and advancement of our democracy.

“No democratic government can really be complete without an effective, efficient, reliable and confidence inspiring judiciary, thus informing the need to have this Commission in place.

“We have realized that the judiciary must be able to inspire confidence in terms of justice adjudication and this could only be achieved when we have confident and eminently qualified personalities at the state’s Judicial Service Commission to complement the efforts of the judicial officials.

“It is for this singular reason that I ‎urge the newly inducted members of the JSC to give their best for the development of the state and re-position the state judiciary to an enviable position.

“We want you all to discharge your duties with fear of God, not fear of man, by ensuring that justice is firmly and fearlessly delivered”, Aregbesola stressed.

He therefore reassured the people of the state of his administration’s commitment to bringing life abundance to all and sundry

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, one of the newly sworn-in members of the Commission, Hon. Nathaniel Agunbiade expressed gratitude to Governor Aregbesola for reposing confidence in them to serve the state, assuring that the members of the Commission will justify the confidence reposed in them.

According to him, we will do everything required to discharge our duties efficiently, proficiently and effectively. We also assure to work assiduously with the leadership of the state Judiciary to facilitate and complement justice adjudication.

“We will ensure that justice is not only done but seen to be done”, he stressed.
