Nigeria Football Federation has admitted that it was difficult to convince Argentina to play against the Super Eagles because they are ranked by FIFA well outside the top 30 teams in the world.
A complete Argentina team, with superstar Lionel Messi, will take on Nigeria on November 14 in a friendly match as part of preparation by both countries for next year’s World Cup in Russia.
Nigeria is currently ranked 41st in the world by FIFA, while Argentina is fourth in the world.
“Being outside the top 30 teams in the world, it was not easy to get Argentina to agree to play us,” Eagles spokesperson, Toyin Ibitoye revealed.
“But thanks to the leadership of the NFF and our match agent, Jairo Pachon, we were able to swing it.
“The high-profile friendly against Argentina is a big one as it will help knock our team into shape for World Cup especially as we do not have another window for such a match until March next year when we will play AFCON qualifiers.”
