Former Osun United coach, Duke Udi is set to dump the Nigeria Professional Football League side Sunshine Stars due to harsh and inclement condition.
The former Nigerian and Shooting Stars star helped the Owena Waves to avoid relegation during the last season of the NPFL.
Sources at the Akure side and a close confidant disclosed that the former Giwa FC manager is no longer comfortable with the situation at the club, especially as it concerns the team’s pre-season build-up for the upcoming league season.
“The situation at Sunshine Stars at the moment is one no coach worth his onion will want to continue with, even a second longer. It’s outright intolerable condition that is prevailing at the Akure side.
“The coach felt that if he did not leave immediately everything he has laboured and worked for himself in the time past will crumble right on his face.
“The coach felt that the management of the side did not learn anything from the tough circumstances that saw the side barely managing to escape relegation in the past season.
“To worsen the situation the new sports commissioner went public to announce a huge slash on the take home of the coach from Six Hundred Thousand Naira (N600,000) to Four Hundred Thousand Naira (N400,000), perhaps as reward for guiding the side to avoid relegation.
“Aside, the situation is steadily worsening by seconds as the side are nowhere close to beginning any form of preseason programme less than 40 days to the commencement of the new league season.
“The side’s two key players, the highest goal scorer, Otegbeye Ajibola, and Dayo Ojo, have moved over to the camp of Aiteo Cup winners, Akwa United. Others like that have gone to competing and rival sides for greener pastures.
“The coach considered these problems and felt it’s better for him to pack his bags and go home before the system collapses on his head,” the source concluded.
