Tragedy struck at Oke Ore, on the Sango-Ota-Owode Expressway in Ogun State on Tuesday when a roadside mechanic and a seven-year-old boy were reported to have been mauled to death.
The incident was said to have occurred around 10.11am.
It was gathered that the driver of the truck, en route to Owode, lost the control of the vehicle and ran over the victims.
The mechanic was said to have died instantly, while the seven-year-old boy died in a hospital where he was rushed to after the incident.
The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the corpse of the mechanic had been claimed by his family members.
He said the driver of the truck had been arrested by policemen from the Owode Police Division.
He said, “We learnt that the seven-year-old boy was with the mechanic by the roadside when the driver of the truck, who was speeding, lost control of the vehicle and crushed the two of them.
“Our personnel, who went to the scene of the accident, said the relatives of the auto mechanic had claimed his corpse.
“The driver of the vehicle is still with the police at the Owode division.”
