The Oyo State Police Command and the State Security Service, Oyo Command, have both firmly expressed their full readiness to provide strong security for The Technical University (Tech-U), Ibadan, as it begins full operations.

The commands gave this assurance when the pioneering management of the University paid a courtesy call to the headquarters of the two security agencies in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Thursday.

The Tech-U management team was led by the VC, Prof. Ayobami Salami. On the team was the Special Adviser on security to the Oyo State Governor, Mr. Segun Bolarinwa, the University Registrar, Mr. Alex Oladeji, the Bursar, Mr. Kehinde Olatokun, the Librarian, Mrs. Bukky Asubiojo, Director for Academic, Planning and Partnership, Prof. Sola Ajayi, Director of the VC’s Office, Mrs. Olayinka Balogun, the Media Officer, Mr. Ademola Adesola, and the Administrative Officer, Mr. Dipo Fagbamila.

Explaining the rationale behind the courtesy visits by the management team of Tech-U to the two commands, the VC revealed that the visit was necessitated by the need to inform them of the institution’s readiness to bring in admitted students from January 7th next year for the beginning of full academic activities, and to solicit the support and cooperation of the two security agencies in providing adequate security for the institution. The VC in his remarks harped on the need for collaboration between the University and the security organisations.

“More than any other considerations, the vulnerability of our location makes the kind of cooperation and support we seek from you very important. With you working with us, we have the confidence that our work will be done,” the VC said.

In his response, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Mr. Abiodun Odude, expressed the appreciation of his Command to the Tech-U team for taking the right step to seek partnership and support in the area of security from the police. The police boss assured the institution of the full readiness of the police in the state to accord it strong security. According to him, “special attention will be given to The Technical University. We understand the peculiarity of security for higher institutions. Already you have shown by your visit that you understand the criticalness of security to the success of your operation. We are ready to provide strong security for your institution”.

Similarly, the SSS Director in the State, Alhaji Y. A. Kure, expressed his delight in the visit and promised to ensure that his Command plays the appropriate role in fortifying securing in the University.

He said, “We value education in the Service. No development without security. We see your University as a great partner. We are part and parcel of this project”.

He further said that officers from his Command would be deployed to the University to carry out a comprehensive vulnerability assessment.
