Oyo House Confirms Justice Akinteye As President Customary Court Of Appeal

The Oyo State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Honourable Justice Solomon Adegboyega Akinteye as the President of the state’s Customary Court of Appeal.

The House made the confirmation at its plenary on Thursday after screening Justice Akinteye who appeared before the house.

The House had at its sitting on Tuesday 23rd January, 2018 directed Justice Akinteye to appear before it on Thursday for screening pursuant to the letter from the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi requesting the House to confirm his appointment following the recommendation by the National Judicial Council (NJC) as the President Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo State.

Some Lawmakers in their remarks described Justice Akinteye as very diligent, knowledgeable, humble, round peg in round hole who is eminently qualified and has what it takes to be President of Customary Court of Appeal having delivered landmark and philosophical judgments as a High Court Judge.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Adesina Michael Adeyemo described the nomination of Justice Akinteye as another historical event in Oyo State.

While praying God to grant Justice Akinteye the strength needed to discharge his duties in the tasks ahead of him, the Speaker enjoined him to continue to dispense justice without fear or favour.

In a chat with journalists shortly after his confirmation, Justice Akinteye explained that the establishment of Customary Court of Appeal would fast track the dispensation and decongested of Customary Court cases that were filed before the high court, stressing that all the cases filed by way of certiorari or by way of prohibition in the high court would now be transferred to the customary court of Appeal.

Justice Solomon Adegboyega Akinteye was accompanied to the House by all the High Court Judges in Oyo State, former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Oyo State, Barr. Adebayo Ojo and many members of staff in the High Court.

Hon. Justice Solomon Adegboyega Akinteye until his nomination by the NJC was the next in rank to the Chief Judge of Oyo State. He was born on 24th June, 1953 in Igbo ora, Ibarapa Central Local Government area. He attended the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife between 1976-1980 and was called to bar in 1981.

Similarly, the House of Assembly has read for the first time the bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Oyo State Bureau of Physical Planning & Development Control & Other Matters Connected Thereto.

The House has adjourned its sitting till 13th February, 2018.
