South Africa Premier Soccer League side, Cape Town City chairman, John Comitis has confirmed that Nigeria international striker, Obinna Nsofo has left the club due to family issues.

The former West Ham United and Inter Milan star joined the Citizens at the beginning of the season to much fan-fare.

However, the 30-year-old only scored once in 14 appearances in all competitions for the Premiership title contenders.

“We parted ways with Obinna,” Comitis tells KickOff.com.

“Obinna had a six-months contract plus option to continue and he couldn’t get his family here because of paperwork, and we decided that maybe it’s best to part ways.

“We had a one season to it but it was to be reviewed after six months and he didn’t settle… his wife couldn’t get the visa, and child to come here.”

Meanwhile, Comitis also explained why City’s interest in Bafana Bafana forward Tokelo Rantie failed to bear any fruit in the January transfer window.

“Nothing happened with Rantie, never had him, never did anything. Of course there’s interest, which club wasn’t interested [laughs]. No, we didn’t manage to communicate with Rantie unfortunately, and I’m not sure of his whereabouts,” adds the ex-Ajax Cape Town boss.
