As Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) commences trials ahead of the 21st Commonwealth Games on Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th to select the final boxers for the game, Chairman Oyo State Amateur Boxing Association Chief Baron Akintunde Opaleye has expressed optimism over his boxers making the final list and do Nigeria proud in Australia.

Opaleye who made the call in Lagos while visiting the National camp to check on the welfare of his boxers, Abayomi Idowu a.k.a Eruku and Oluwamuyide Dorcas assured on the chances of his boxers making the final list and winning laurels for the country in the game hinging his optimism on the good form and positive attitudes of the boxers.

“I’m confident that our boxers from Oyo State will make it to the Commonwealth Games, they have shown good attributes of champions, and

I must commend the NBF this time around for adopting the right approach in preparing our boxers ahead of major tournament.

“I was told all athletes would be going for a training tour in preparatory to the games, this is a commendable arrangement that will definitely yield positive results. I’m sure my boxers will give good accounts of themselves when the games gets underway”, Oyo boxing boss noted.

Nigeria will be competing at the games in flyweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight in women category while the men will vie for honours in bantam, lightweight, welterweight and light heavyweight categories.

The country will also be fielding four male and four female boxers in different weight categories in the international tourney scheduled for April.
