In recognition of his outstanding achievements at ensuring the promotion of relevant legislations for the development of health care services and sports in Ogun State, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi has been conferred with the “Distinguished Ambassador Award” by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
The State Chairman of the Association, Dr. Abayomi Olajide who led other members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to decorate the Speaker, in preparation for the forthcoming NMA National Games tagged:“Abeokuta 2018”, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said that the Assembly through its people-oriented legislations had transformed all sectors of the State’s economy, particularly the health care sector.
Olajide, who described the Speaker as an astute administrator and a lover of peace, reiterated the association’s unwavering support for the advancement of the sector with a promise to partner with the Assembly towards initiating relevant legislations to further enhance the healthcare sector for optimum performance.
Responding, the Speaker assured the association of the Assembly’s support, explaining that the successes recorded since the inception of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration was possible through the synergy with professional bodies and all the residents of the State.
Adekunbi stated that as people’s representatives, the onus was on his colleage lawmakers to deliver on the mandate given to them by the electorate through qualitative representation which would bring about legislations that would advance the socio-economic status of the State.
He recalled that as part of the present administration’s commitment to the well-being of the people, it had accorded the sector more importance in its cardinal programmes, through massive investment in infrastructure and equipment.
Adekunbi, while applauding the association for the honour bestowed on him, which he noted was as result of collaborative efforts of all the State lawmakers, assuring that the Assembly under his leadership would continue to enact more effective legislations for the growth of the State, tasking the medical personnel not to rest on their oars at improving the overall health wellbeing of the populace.
