The Lawmaker representing Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Olusegun Odebunmi (a.k.a. Bunvic) has said that inadequate set-up boxes is hindering Digital Switch Over (DSO) in some states of Nigeria.

He stated this in Ibadan on Friday after a close-door meeting between the Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and some APC lawmakers from the State’s House of Assembly and House of Representatives.

Hon. Odebunmi is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Information and National Orientation.

He stated that the major constraint in switching over across the states of the country was the inadequacy of the set-up boxes.

According to him,”the number of the set-up boxes available in the country is not enough.

“States like Oyo, Lagos and Kano are yet to be considered because of their large sizes and number of boxes required. If not for the constraint, I would have loved my state to be considered now.

“I am very sure that by the time we have enough set-up boxes, all these big states will be considered.”

He stated that the DSO exercise has been carried out successfully in six states of the country, saying the nation was presently leading in Africa.

“DSO is a programme agreed upon globally. Though, we did not meet the stipulated set-up time, but Nigeria is leading in Africa now.

“Today, we have switched over in six states and moving to Delta State for the next exercise,” he said.

The lawmaker, however, said that the nation at present has two companies producing the set-up boxes, saying they were optimistic that the boxes would be adequately produced.

Odebunmi added that they were presently planning to switch off analogue from states like Abuja , Kaduna and Jos, where the exercise has been carried out.

“If we don’t switch off analogue in those states, there won’t be demand for the set-up boxes to provide patronage for the producers,” he said.
