The Nigeria Customs Service, Oyo/Osun Command has seized good worth N92,778,048.22 from the total of 14 seizures made recently.

The Area Comptroller for Oyo/Osun Command of the NSC, Comptroller Christopher Orji Odibu disclosed this at a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan on Tuesday, 13th of March, 2018.

Comptroller Odibu said that sequel to the promise he made at his first press briefing to deal decisively with smugglers noted the Command in keeping to its mandate and has re-strategized its operation by utilizing reports gathered which resulted to recent seizures.

While listing out various goods and their values seized by the Command, Comptroller Odibu pointed nine trucks and two used cars with duty paid value N34,782,792.29, 4000 bags of 50kg rice with duty paid value N48,596,321.00 and 150 pieces of used tyres worth N1,298,345.63.

Others include 51 bales of second hand clothes with duty paid value of N7,043,205.75 and 50 kegs of 25kg vegetable oil with duty paid value of N1,057,375.00, which put the total duty paid value to N92,778,048.23.

Comptroller Odibu opined that the seizures were made at different locations within the Command’s area with major focus operations carried out along Opara/Bodo Musa axis of Iwajowa Local Government Area of Oyo State, where one suspect was arrested.

He lamented that it is very unfortunate and disturbing that despite the wide awareness on the dire consequences of smuggling activities on economic growth and development and effort of federal government to transform the agricultural sector, some unpatriotic Nigerians still find joy in smuggling used cars, foreign rice and other contraband goods.
