  • Oborududu, Adekuoroye Win Another Commonwealth Gold Medal

Team Nigeria has added another Gold Medal through Blessing Oborududu who came first in the women’s Freestyle wrestling of the 63Kg category.

The 29-year-old Nigerian freestyle wrestler competed in the freestyle 63 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics

She also won a bronze medal in the women’s middleweight at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She beat Chloe Spiteri in her bronze medal match.

Oborududu also competed in the women’s middleweight at the 2016 Olympics, losing to Soronzonboldyn Battsetseg in the second round.

The Gold Medal won earlier Friday morning is Nigeria’s Sixth Gold Medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Meanwhile, one of four Nigerian female freestyle wrestlers making the country proud, Odunayo Adekuoroye has just gotten her second Commonwealth Gold Medal.

Adekuoroye is not a stranger to victory in freestyle wrestling, the 23-year-old participated in the 2014 Commonwealth Games where she won a gold medal.

In 2015, she won a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships, sealing her reputation as the most popular wrestler in Nigeria and one of the biggest stars in women’s wrestling.

In 2016, at the World Wrestling Championships that was held in Paris, Adekuoroye won a silver medal narrowly missing out on becoming the first African woman to win a gold medal at the event.

Her victory has further affirmed her capacity and influence in the Female wrestling category.
