Wednesday, May 2, 2018 will remain another day never to be forgotten by iconic Nigerian fuji musician, Abass Akande Obesere.

It was a day he was held hostage at Splash FM Radio Station located in Felele Area of Ibadan after being a guest on Kola Olootu’s popular programme, ‘Oselenkejo’ on Lagelu FM, a sister station to Splash FM.

Obesere, according to PMParrot’s reporter on ground, had arrived the station as early as 10 am to join the presenter of the programme, Otunba Kola Olootu without knowing what awaited him at the end of the programme.

By 12 noon when the curtains closed on the day’s programme, news got to Obesere and his hosts that the whole of Felele Straight road had been locked down by his fans who wanted to catch a glimpse of him.

He promptly informed Olootu, his host that he would have to wait for him until he was ready to leave the studio too.

Eye witness informed PMParrot “When Olootu eventually concluded his assignments in the studio, he asked the musician to wait in the studio and allow him to go outside to see to the fans. He could not. He came back to confirm the situation to Obesere.

“He thus suggested to the musician that he should exercise some more patience to see if some of the crowd outside would go away with time.

“Along the line, Obesere was asked to step outside to salute his fans. He did. But the crowd he saw made him dodge his way back into the studio. He had to wait there.

“While waiting, it was discovered that some of the fans had found their ways into the premises of the radio station. Many of them requested for autographs and ‘selfies’ with the musician.”

“It was at this time that somebody suggested that Obesere should pay a visit to the proprietor of the radio station, Chief Adebayo Akande whose private residence is located far behind the radio station but within the same compound.

“This was the opportunity needed by Obesere and he found his way out of the community using another vehicle”.

When PMParrot contacted him later, Obesere said “I am used to my fans wanting to touch and talk to me. But the number of fans I saw in Felele overwhelmed me I must confess. I thank God that they all still love me. I love them too.

“I had to tactically leave the radio station because I did not want to cause commotion or get anybody injured in the likely stampede of my coming out directly to meet my fans.

“They should all be patient, I am original ‘omo Ibadan’. They will still see more of me. Our new musical productions will so much please them that they will want more of us. We give God all the glory for where He is still taking us”.
