The Fans of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan left the Lekan Salami Stadium Complex, venue of the Nigeria National League (NNL) opening game disappointed when the visiting Insurance of Benin shared points with the homer, 3SC.
The fans in their reactions after the game fumed, describing the Oluyole Warrior as not formidable enough to favourably compete for promotion ticket in a group comprising of more determined opponents.
Contrary to the assurance given by the General Manager of 3SC, Rashidi Balogun before the team departed for Ijebu-Ode on Thursday for a close camping ahead of the crucial match against their old rivals that his boys are fully ready; the outing was quite unsatisfactory to the teeming fans that came out on Sunday to watch the league opener.
The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu led highly motivated large number of Bendel Insurance fans from Benin to Ibadan to cheer the team with replica jerseys and club’s souvenirs, singing all through the duration of the game.
Edith Agoye, the gaffer of 3SC ascribed the home draw to lack of experience on the part of his boys that could not rise up to the demands of such a big game. He promised a better outing in their subsequent league matches, saying the league is just starting and still very open.
“It was not that we are not good enough but my boys met a tough and traditional side, so they got carried away, on a good day nothing can stop us from scoring more than two goals and win comfortably.
“However, the race is still very open so we are going back to the drawing board to re-strategize and return to winning ways”, former striker of Shooting Stars, Edith Agoye noted.
Meanwhile, Shooting Stars are drawn in group B1 alongside Warri Wolves, Bayelsa United, J.Atete, Akwa Starlet, Gateway FC of Ogun State, Spartan FC of Lagos, Abia Comet and Bendel Insurance of Benin where a sole winner is expected.
