In what appeared to be one of the moves to strategize for the politics of 2019,  former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday paid a visit to the Lekki residence of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a chieftain of pan-Yoruba socio-political group (Afenifere).

While there, he held closed-door parley with him and other Yoruba elders and leaders in attendance on the need to unify the race and secure a common voice in the forthcoming general poll. Sources closed to the meeting hinted.

Both Obasanjo and Adebanjo are seen in many quarters not to enjoy smooth relationship, dating back to several years.

The former president arrived the Lekki home of Adebanjo at 10:40am and was ushered in by Chief Adebanjo and other leaders, including two former governors, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; Prof. Banji Akintoye, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Chief Supo Shonibare, Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, Dr. Amos Akingba, Prof. Akin Mabogunje, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, among others.

Obasanjo was, however, accompanied by Chief Abraham Akanle, Chief Kenny Martins, Chief Joju Fadiaro, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, Chief Gbolade Osinowo, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, among others. Senator Femi Okunrounmu later joined the meeting.

Earlier, former President Obasanjo had visited former deputy national chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George in his Ikoyi home to condole him on the death of his son, Dipo, who died last May 9, 2018, with the visit also seen as end to the political rift between the duo by the George family.

Obasanjo urged Chief George, who was former Military Administrator of Ondo State, to take solace in God over the demise of the late son, Dipo.

“We cannot query God, but to only take solace in what He has done to you. If this did not happen, who knows what next that will happen. I have not been around but it was in my mind to come over and commiserate with you and the family. May God grant the depose eternal rest,” Obasanjo said.

The visit turned emotional when sister to Bode George, Alhaja Majolagbe, while giving a vote of thanks declared that the rift between the duo was over with the visit.

“We are all shocked when this started. But, today, devil has been put to shame. The evil this morning has been condemned outside this house. It will never come to this two great Nigerians anymore.

“Time has come again when my brother will find Ota his home. It is over, Allah takes all thanks,” she said.
