The Hope Democratic Party will hold its primary election in Osun State on Sunday, 8th of July, 2018 to elect its governorship candidate for the September 22nd governorship election poll in the state.
The Chairman of the Election Planning Committee of the party, Mr. Dada Olusegun, told journalists yesterday that the party would produce a candidate that would be acceptable to the people of the state.
Mr. Dada said that the party had made thorough arrangements for the 8th of July, primary and 22nd September governorship poll.
On security, he said security arrangements have been made to ensure no breach of peace and civil disorder.
The party leadership had, prior to the scheduled primaries date, engaged its members in a wider consultation with a view to arriving at consensus governorship candidate towards achieving a peaceful and rancour- free exercise.
It would be recalled that Hope Democratic Party (HDP) was registered on November 10, 2006, later de-registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission in 2011, but was later reinstated by a federal high court judgment in 2015. HDP participated in the last 2015 general elections. It was also one of the 14 political parties that fielded presidential candidates in the last presidential election.
Hope Democratic Party (HDP) was brought to Osun state in 2015, almost a month after the general elections. It has then become active and registered its presence in the minds of Osun state citizens.
This forthcoming governorship election will be the first of its kind the party will be participating since it was brought to the state.
