A lawmaker in Oyo state House of Assembly, Hon. Olusegun Olaleye has left his party, All Progressives Congress (APC) to pitch tent with the former governor of the state, Chief Rashidi Ladoja of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The lawmaker, fondly called Radical Brother by his teeming followers, representing Ibadan North 11 constituency made the disclosure on Thursday, during the House plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olagunju Ojo.

According to him, the decision to pitch tent with Senator Ladoja was to allow him discharge his legislative duties as expected of him and to allow real internal democracy.

“I want to say it authoritatively that if Radical Brother has decamped, maybe you will say to Chief Ladoja’s house at Bodija. So you can use that to deduce whatever direction and in the next few days or weeks, you will know better on that.

“But for now take it from me, I Hon. Olusegun Olaniyi Olaleye, I am no longer in APC. I am now under the former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adewolu Ladoja and where ever he is, whether in PDP or not, I am going with him. And if he says tomorrow it’s another place, you will find me there because that is the same way I was under the late Lam Adesina and I never regretted it for a day and I know on this I will not regret it,” Olaleye stated.

Meanwhile, the Assembly during the plenary, sworn-in the newly elected member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, representing Ibarapa East.

Hon. Ogundoyin of PDP emerged a newly elected member of the Assembly, after a keenly contested by-election to pick a successor, following the vacant position created by the death of the late Speaker, Hon. Michael Adeyemo from Ibarapa East constituency.

In his acceptance speech, the newly sworn-in lawmaker disclosed that the first thing he would embark upon as a legislator was to first have a mutual working relationship with other lawmakers, stressing that it would be an opportunity for his constituency.

“I promise to do the best in my constituency and I am very happy to witness this epoch making event today.

“As a PDP member, I do not believe there will be a problem being in opposition. We are all here for the betterment of the state and to achieve the same objective. I do not see the party as a barrier,” he stressed.

However, during the sitting, a call was made to the executive arm through the state’s Ministry of Health to partner with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, to fast-track the execution of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NBTE for the commencement of the ND and HND programmes in Nursing.

The call was made by the Chairman, Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Segun Ajanaku while moving a motion on the theme: “Need to review process of weeding of students and energising the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Eleyele, Ibadan for effective performance.”

He added that the executive arm needed to ensure that urgent measures are taken to constitute a Governing Council for the college with full powers to perform its functions.

“I want to urge the government to take proactive measures to appoint qualified principals and academic personnel for the fulfilment of the objectives of the colleges, while I call on the appropriate committee of the House to wade into the matter with a view to find out and make recommendations to the House,” Hon. Ajanaku noted.
