France national football team, Les Bleus joined the elite club of World Cup winners on Sunday defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

France, who won their first title in 1998 on home soil, join the likes of Brazil, Germany, Italy, Argentina and Uruguay as crowned World Champions on more than one occasion.

Didier Deschamps became only the third man to triumph in the World Cup final both as a player and as a manager as his side came out on top on a game full of historic moments.

Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic became the first player to score an own goal in a World Cup final when he inadvertently deflected Antoine Griezmann’s header into his own net to give France an 18th-minute lead.

That advantage lasted 10 minutes before Croatia equalised. Zlatko Dalic’s men had come from behind in every knockout game on their way to the final and they levelled here through Ivan Perisic’s fierce effort.

The Les Bleus beat Argentina 4-3 in the last 16 in a brilliant game. In the quarters they got past Uruguay in a 2-0 win and the semi-final was a 1-0 win over Belgium thanks to Samuel Umtiti’s goal.

Didier Deschamps side are worthy winners of the World Cup and they’ll be extremely relieved after losing the final of the Euros two years ago on home soil.
