  • Gives Reasons For Aspiring To Be Governor

The Secretary to the Oyo State government, Mr Ismaheel Olalekan Alli has disclosed that Governor Abiola Ajimobi has neither anointed him nor anyone among those are jostling to contest the gubernatorial election in the forthcoming general elections in the State as his successor.

Mr Olalekan Alli made this clarification to the press shortly after he met with the Chairman of APC in the State, Chief Akin Oke and other members of the executive to intimate them of his intention to run as governor at the party secretariat, Oke Ado, Ibadan this afternoon.

The SSG hinted that this clarification became imperative amid the speculation making the round that he came out to join the governorship race having been anointed by the Governor as his successor.

According to him, “my boss, His Excellency, Senator Abiola Ajimobi does not have any anointed candidate and that is his proclamation to all of us that has interested in leading this state. He has said it and he will continue to say it as a man of integrity that he has always been, as a trustworthy person that he has always been and as an effective and impactful leader that he has always been, that he has no anointed candidate and that has encouraged me, emboldened me and enabled me to come forward to say I want to commit myself to what we call the modest service to the people and corporate entity that we call Oyo State.” He stressed.

Mr Alli pointed out that his intention to seek the coveted position was borne out of the need to sustain the legacy of the present administration with excellent governance of the Governor of Oyo State as put in place in the last seven and half years so that the state will continue to witness peace, security of her citizenry and massive infrastructural and economic development.

Mr Alli lauded the leadership qualities, boldness and courage that Governor Ajimobi has displayed in transforming the socio-economy platform of the state which according to him, has earned her recognition as one of the leading five states in Nigeria today.

With his declaration today, the number of members of the cabinet under Governor Abiola Ajimobi that have signified their intention to succeed him has become four. Others are the Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan, Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Survey, Mr Ajiboye Omodewu, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Natural Resources, Mr Fatai Abimbola Abogun who was former Commissioner for Natural Resources in the State.
