Former Nigeria international, Nwankwo Kanu, has hailed Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, for his newly found form for the national team.
Ighalo was instrumental in Nigeria’s back to back wins over the Mediterranean knights of Libya in 2019 AFCON qualifiers, scoring five goals across the two fixtures to increase his tally to six having scored the first in away victory over Pirates of Seychelles.
However, prior to this great exploits, The former Udinese and Watford striker has been slammed by the fans for his below standard performance in Russia 2018 World Cup , where he missed two glorious chances to send the Super Eagles to the round of sixteen over Argentina.
Kanu was delighted the Chinese based striker put all that happened behind and rediscovered his ability to score goal again.
Kanu said, “it is not possible for Ighalo to deliberately miss those scoring chances most fans are crucified him for, rather it was unfortunate that he did not make best use of the balls that could have buried mighty Argentina in that crucial match at the World Cup in Russia.
They former Inter Milan and Arsenal forward also pleaded with football lovers to be patient with players, saying they need encouragement in difficult period.
“Fans need to appreciate the state of mind of a footballer. While in other clime they are encouraged, it is sad here we crucify them as if it is a deliberate act not to write ones name in gold with goals,” he concluded.
