The Nigeria National League has debunked Insurance Football Club promotion claim into the Nigeria Professional Football League for the new season.

The Executive Secretary of the League body, Lawrence Katkem, said the claims is a ruse, explaining that the top two teams from the groups will still slug out in the Super 8 for qualify for the top flight.

According to Katkem: “The club congress unilaterally agreed at the start of the season that the two top teams in each group will play the Super 8 where the top four clubs pick the tickets into NPFL.

“The arrangement is no secret to all the clubs. They are aware of the rules guiding the league, except some people want to be mischievous about it.

“For me, it is laughable and not true that Insurance FC has gained promotion to play the NPFL in NPFL next season. They still have a bridge to cross and that’s the Super 8.”

With the 2-1 win over Shooting Stars of Ibadan in Benin on Monday, the Edo Gunners have booked a place in the Super 8.
