The Ekiti State Chairman of the Inter – Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Ilesanmi Omolayo has sympathized with the families of the victims who died in a ghastly motor accident involving a truck conveying bags of rice on the Iworoko – Ado Ekiti Road recently.

The IPAC State Chairman, who expressed his sadness was full of emotions as he lamented the sudden death of over 20 victims. He blamed motorists who usually fail to put their vehicles in good shape before embarking on journeys for the accident.

This was contained in a press release issued recently and signed by the Media Assistant to the Ekiti State IPAC Chairman and circulated to media houses in Ado Ekiti.

Speaking further, Mr. Ilesanmi Omolayo, the Ekiti State IPAC Chairman advised motorists to “always ensure they put their vehicles in good condition before setting out on any journey”.

He blamed the driver of the truck for failing to check the condition of his vehicle and for driving recklessly, thereby causing the loss of over 20 lives.

He equally used the opportunity to condemn the unethical attitude of the officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ekiti State Command for not responding on time to the victims of the accident which could drastically reduced the number of those who lost their lives.

He therefore called on FRSC officials in the state to brace up, be more diligent and alert to their responsibilities and job demands, ensuring accident free travels for road users and saving of lives on all Nigerian roads and especially in Ekiti State. He also urged FRSC officials to begin a 24-hour patrol of all the roads of Ekiti State to reduce accidents on the roads.

Omolayo advised the families of the accident victims to take their solace in God alone. He prayed that God Almighty will fill the vacuum left by their loved ones.

The Ekiti IPAC boss, also called on the State Government to declare a state of emergency on the Iworoko – Ado Ekiti road. He urged Governor Kayode Fayemi to rise to the occasion and fix all the bad portions on the Ado Ekiti – Iworoko Ekiti road as soon  as possible to avert further losses of lives and properties on the road. Mr. Ilesanmi Omolayo advised Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the Governor of the state to ban on all rickety and substandard vehicles plying Ekiti roads henceforth.

He also called on the members of the NURTW, RTEAN, Okada Riders and other transport workers and their leaders in the state to call themselves to order on their behaviour, attitude and actions while driving on Nigerian roads.

Omolayo equally called on the Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) in the state to intensify their efforts at reducing the numbers of vehicles that are not road-worthy.
