The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter has described the death of Chairman, Osun State Football Association, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi as a great loss to football fraternity in Nigeria and Africa.

In a condolence message signed by Oyo SWAN Chairman, Mr Niyi Alebiosu and Secretary, Mr Adewale Tijani, the body of sports writers in the state recalled with nostalgia the remarkable contributions of the deceased to the development of the round leather game in the country.

“Chief Ogunjobi left his indelible marks in the glorious history of Nigerian football as a successful footballer and astute administrator.”

Oyo SWAN added that “the history of football in Nigeria cannot be complete without the enumeration of the laudable contributions of the Osun born football legend”.

Chief Ogunjobi died on Monday morning at the University College Hospital Ibadan.

In the 1970s and 80s, the late soccer star, known as Skippo in his playing days, played for IICC Shooting Stars and Nigeria’s national team, then known as the Green Eagles.

After retiring from active play, Late Ogunjobi administered Shooting Stars in the 1990s before moving to the Nigeria Football Federation board, where he served as the Federation’s Secretary General during the reign of Sani Lulu Abdullahi.

Oyo SWAN prayed for the repose of the soul of the football administrator whose demise has created a big vacuum difficult to fill.
