Meteorological Agency Predicts Shorter Raining Season In 2019

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted shorter than normal length of raining season for the year 2019 with the call on all stakeholders in meteorology, especially farmers to take cognizance of the prediction.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Adeyiola Ibitoye, who made the prediction known in Ado Ekiti said the month of March that may cause high temperature would be warmer than normal would generate severe heat that may likely result to cerebrospinal meningitis in some Northern States of Nigeria.

Mr. Adeyiola reported that while Ado-Ekiti, the state capital would have stable rainfall as from April 12 till November 23 with  226 rainy days and an annual estimated volume of 1319mm, Ikere-Ekiti would experience constant rainfall from April 11 till November 24 with an estimated 228 rainy days.

Other Local Governments, according to him would experience a stable rainfall between April 10 and November 24. Adeyiola advised members of the public particularly farmers to take cognizance of these periods which, he said would assist them in their farming activities.
