Fayemi’s Government Charges Ekiti United To Target Premier League

Dr Kayode Fayemi’s government has charged the management of Ekiti United Football club to work harder in order to move from the National League to the Nigeria Premier League next football season.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Yemi Owoseni gave the charge during a meeting he had with the management of the club in Ado-Ekiti.

Owoseni, who pledged to continually support the government for the development of the team, however warned against nepotism stressing that selection of players should always be based on merit.

Mr. Owoseni explained that several friendly matches have been arranged as part of training and preparation for the new football season. He added that the team would play home and away matches against Kogi United Football Club and Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club amongst others.

Earlier, the Chief Coach to the Ekiti United Football Club, Mr. Ademola Agbana said they had commenced preparation for the new season. Agbana, who said 35 players would be selected out of 160 footballers who signified their intention to join and play for the club assured that the invitation of one of the team’s goalkeepers, Makanjuola Adewale into the National Under-23 team would not affect the performance of the team.

The Chief Coach, however commended the team for the positive developments.
