Leaders in major markets within Ibadan South West Constituency 1 trooped out in large numbers to drum support for Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi, son of the popular Fuji star Taye Adebisi Currency.
The market women and men were on hand to give Yusuf’s dream of representing Ibadan South West Constituency 1 in the Oyo State House of Assembly on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The market women and youths who besieged the campaign office of the candidate in large numbers promised their unalloyed support for Yusuf Adebisi’s candidature. They described him as a young, vibrant and dynamic Nigerian with good pedigree, traceable to the Adebisi dynasty of Foko area of Ibadan.
Speaking at the political gathering, the representative of the market women, Alhaja Modinat Adekunle said the pepper sellers, yam flour and yam sellers at Oja Oba and its environs have concluded to support Oladeni Yusuf. “Oladeni is enjoying the good deeds of his father, Alhaji Taye Akande Adebisi Currency who is a public figure not only in Ibadan but also in Nigeria, and we believe that the father will guide him to do well and he will not like to tarnish the image of the name of his father.
“The incumbent member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Subair have failed and betrayed us in many ways because you hardly see him except once in four years during election campaign with no achievement to showcase, and we have no one to complain to. Once we have you at the assembly, whatever we believe you are capable of doing for us, we will not hesitate to call you or report you to your father to call you to order. But we believe you will perform wonders as a young man with fresh blood”, she said.
The representative of the youth, fondly called Maya also appealed to the thousands of youths in Ibadan Southwest Constituency 1 to vote en-masse for Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi. “We are supporting you because this is our time as youths to occupy the seat of power. With your level of exposure, education and a working Nigeria, you can think rightly to legislate and bring us dividends of democracy”.
In his response, Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi appreciated the kind gesture of the group and appealed to them to support him fully and support the governorship candidate of the PDP, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde.
He assured them that he has made up his mind to legislate on laws and programs that will improve the lives of the people of his constituency. “We have good programs for our market women in the area of soft loans, women empowerment and other skill acquisition programs”, he said. Also for the youths he promised to empower the youth especially in facilitating job opportunities, skill acquisitions and education empowerment, such as free distribution of WAEC/NECO forms, final year secondary school student tutorial classes for their various exams.
In addition, Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi said one of his major concerns in his constituency is the security challenge. He promised to do everything in his capacity to improve the security challenges, he also promised to facilitate a police post to the volatile area of his constituency to curb excesses of the exuberant youths.
He appealed to every resident of Ibadan Southwest Constituency 1 to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise as he called for peaceful conduct during the March 9 elections.
