The final burial rites for the late former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi, commenced on Tuesday with a football match between Osun United and Ijesha Golden Warriors at the Osogbo City Stadium.

Ogunjobi died on February 11 at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, after a brief illness at the age of 66.

Speaking before the game, Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, said the state would continue to remember and honour the former Chairman of Osun FA, and urged members of the association to sustain the legacy left behind by the late football icon.

The governor, who was represented by the Supervisor in the state’s Ministry of Sports, Social Protection and Special Needs, Biyi Odunlade, said the state appreciated Ogunjobi’s  exhibition of administrative skill, which fast-tracked the  development of football and the growth of sports in Osun.

In their remarks, the younger brother of Ogunjobi, Rotimi, and the deceased’s first son, Deji, commended the governments of Osun and Oyo states for the honour given the Ijesha-born football administrator.
