Theatre Practitioners Urged To Use Their Works To Promote Yoruba Culture, Language

Yoruba theatre practitioners have been advised to use their works to promote culture and language of the Yoruba race, and not to promote wrong values.

Mr. Olugbenga Adekanmbi, a broadcaster and Theatre Arts graduate of the University of Ibadan, gave this advice in his lecture at an event organised  to mark the 100 days in office of new executives of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) in Ibadan Southwest local government area of Oyo state.

Patrons and Advisers of Ibadan Southwest TAMPAN were also installed during the colourful event, which took place at Mavre 21 Events Centre, Ring Road, Ibadan.

Delivering the lecture, Adekanmbi urged the Yoruba theatre practitioners to emulate the founding fathers of the association, like Late Hubert Ogunde, Late Ade Afolayan and Late Moses Olaiya.

The newly elected executives of Ibadan Southwest TAMPAN are: Babatunde Ayoola (Chairman), Musa Dalia (Vice Chairman), Oyinkansola Adekunle (Secretary), Oludare Olaitan (Asst. Secretary), Azeez Ibrahim Oladimeji  (Financial Secretary), Asiat Olawale (Treasurer).

Others are: Busayo Kolawole (PRO),  Tajudeen Olalekan Abudulahi (Social Secretary), Saheed Akorede (Chief Whip) and Wale Odekunle (State Rep.)

The Ibadan – based Fuji star, Alhaji Taye Adebisi Currency and ace broadcaster, Dr. Adebayo Faleke, were among dignitaries installed as Patrons and Advisers by Ibadan Southwest TAMPAN during the event.

Others honoured at the event included: Chief Adekunle Abimbola Omosapamo, Chief Popoola Oladimeji Olayinka, Kola Akintayo (Ode Ilu Ibadan), Bosun King, and Oloye Ademola Ige.

The event was attended by prominent theater practitioners from across Yorubaland, including TAMPAN National President, Mr. Bolaji Amusan (a.k.a Mr. Latin).

In his speech at the event, the newly elected Chairman of Southwest TAMPAN, Mr. Babatunde Ayoola (a.k.a Jero), commended members of the association in Ibadan Southwest for their support for his administration.
