The driver of a commercial bus which caught fire on Ring Road, Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State on Monday morning almost committed suicide in his bid to save his prized possession.

The  10-seater bus caught fire on its way from Beere, in the heart of Ibadan to Apata at the Round-About located at Town Planning Bus Stop, on Ring Road.

PMParrot was informed that even though no life was lost, a few of the passengers sustained ‘very minor scratches’ as they attempted to escape from the bus as it caught fire.

According to information gathered from one of the Traffic Wardens stationed at the Round About who witnessed the occurrence, the driver whose name was not given panicked after discovering that his vehicle had caught fire.

Said Oladipupo, the Traffic Warden “The driver was obviously the owner of the vehicle. So, when it caught fire, he became uncontrollable as he insisted he wanted to use his bare hands to quench the raging fire. A few motorists stopped and attempted to use their fire extinguishing equipments but to no avail. The driver wanted to jump into the fire to quench the fire by himself but he was prevented by his colleagues who later took him away.

“We all pitied him because we were all so sure he took some kind of loan before he could purchase the vehicle.”
