Workers at the College of Education, Ikere Ekiti, have insisted on the reinstatement of the four senior employees of the Institution, who were compulsorily retired a fortnight ago.

The workers, under the aegis of the Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in Nigeria, Ikere branch, said the reinstatement was necessary since the positions which were the reason for their retirement were legal positions created by the National Commission for Colleges of Education in 2016.

The Governing Council had while implementing the recommendations of the White Paper following report of the visitation panel, ordered four employees occupying positions of Senior Deputy Registrar and Senior Deputy Bursar which it said were not existent in the Institution to proceed on compulsory retirement.

SSUCON Chairman in Ikere Ekiti, Oluwole Olusona; and Secretary, Ojo Kayode Sanya, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Sunday expressed confidence in the ability of the Governing Council, which it said had the integrity to move the institution forward, to ensure justice in the matter.

The statement was based on the resolution of the association’s congress held on Thursday to review the development on the seven-day ultimatum given to the Governing Council and management of the college to reinstate its disengaged members.

Olusona and Sanya stated that the congress, which frowned on attempts by some individuals to hijack the situation to score cheap points, “resolved to explore all avenues to ensure peaceful and amicable resolution of the situation and affirmed confidence in the state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, who they said had always come to the rescue of the institution.

“The union commended the college Governing Council for having listening ears and believes in the integrity of the council to move the college forward”, the statement read; adding that exploring dialogue would ensure the resolution of the contentious issue.
