The Ekiti State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYC has submitted a proposal on youth empowerment which would provide jobs for about 400 young people in the state through waste management.
Submitting the proposal to the Director General of the Bureau of Employment, Labor and Productivity, Mr. Olarenwaju Ogunjobi in his office in Ado-Ekiti, the NYC Chairman, Mr. Eyitayo Fabunmi solicited the approval of the state government that will ensure the project becomes a reality in Ekiti State.
He said the project was conceptualized to improve sanitation, engage the youths in nation building and support the government’s efforts towards improving the internally generated revenue through waste collection.
Mr. Fabunmi who explained that Ado metropolis will be subdivided into 10 different districts added that places like, eateries, market places, school premises, motor parks, residential premises, hotels, inns and petrol station are part of the coverage areas of the proposal.
Mr Fabunmi said 10,000 household has been mapped out for the pilot stage of the project in Ado-Ekiti and expressed confidence that the project will not only enhance clean environment but also increase the state internally generated revenue and also afford the youths the opportunity to contribute their quota in nation building through self-help community project initiatives and environmental hazard control.
Responding, the Director General of Bureau of Employment, Labor and Productivity, Mr. Olarenwaju Ogunjobi commended the NYC leadership for coming up with such a feasible proposal which is targeted at resolving one of the pressing environmental challenges.
Mr Olanrewaju who described the state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi as a man who has passion for youth development said that the proposal will be forwarded to the appropriate quarters for consideration and that the government will not hesitate give the youth every necessary support.
