Oyo Assembly Members, Family Pay Last Respect To Olatoye Sugar

The former and serving members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have paid their last respects to the late Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Olatoye Temitope Sugar.

The lying-in-State programme was held at House of Chief, House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Ibadan.

In his tribute, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olagunju Ojo, described late Hon. Sugar as lover of the downtrodden and a colossus of monumental dimension, who loved to help the poor and give back to the people and community at large.

Hon. Olagunju stated further that the contributions of Hon. Olatoye Sugar to the development of his state, Oyo State and country, Nigeria through discussion, motions and bills in the floor of the house and community level.

His colleagues at the 7th assembly, Hon. Olagunju and Hon. Sikiru Alli described Hon. Olatoye as someone who will be difficult to forget, because of his philanthropist gesture towards the people through his foundation.

Hon. Olusegun Olaleye and Hon. Joshua Oyebamiji challenged friends and the good people of Nigeria to develop the will to assist the family he left behind, particularly his children.

They noted that Hon. Sugar during his life time was always at the fore front in championing the course of democracy in Nigeria. They implored the family, friends and benefactors not to seek physical vengeance of Hon. Sugar’s death.

In their remarks on behalf of the family, Olatoye Senior (Big Daddy) and Dotun Olatoye, thanked the leadership of the House of Assembly for the opportunity to honour late Hon. Olatoye Sugar.

They implored the state government to do more to protect lives of innocent people of the state. They pleaded with governments at all levels to ensure that perpetrators of Hon. Olatoye Sugar’s death are brought to book and ensure justice prevails.

Speaking on behalf of members of staff of the House of Assembly, Mr. Tijani Babatunde described Hon. Sugar as someone who was generous and prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Hon. Olatoye Sugar was a member of Oyo State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015, he left behind an aged father, mother, three wives and nine children.
