Ogun Assembly Tasks Auditor General Nominee On Prudence, Transparency

Ogun State House of Assembly has screened the nominee for the post of Auditor General for Local Government, Mr Lamidi Mulero with a charge on him to bring his wealth of experience to bear in the new office through promotion of prudence, accountability and transparency in the running of the Local  Government Councils.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave the charge while screening the nominee at the Assembly in response to the correspondence from the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun forwarding Mr Mulero’s nomination to the  Assembly the previous day for confirmation and ratification of his appointment.

Adekunbi represented by his Deputy, Olakunle Oluomo, who underscored the importance of the office tasked the nominee to evolve strong audit measures that would bring about efficiency in managing public resources in the State if confirmed.

In their separate submissions, other  lawmakers including Victor Fasanya, Ganiyu Oyedeji, Rasaq Oduntan described the nomination of Lamidi as a round peg in a round hole, stating  the need for the nominee upon confirmation to ensure timely preparation of local government councils annual audit reports, while instilling financial discipline with a view to further local government service.

They added that there was need for the Auditor General for Local Government to inject innovations and fresh ideas towards improving effectiveness and efficiency in the  public service administration.

Earlier in his presentation, Mr. Mulero stressed the essence of due process in financial regulation and procurement towards ensuring judicious spending of governmnet fund and promotion of accountability, while canvassing for the upgrade of internal audit unit to a full fledged directorate at the local government level for quality service delivery.

 Mr Mulero, an indegene of Igbogila, Yewa North Local Government Area, is a graduate of Economics from the University of Ibadan, after which he joined the State Civil Service as Auditor Grade II in October,  1992 and rose through the ranks to become an acting Director, Planning, Research and Statistics in the Office of the  Auditor General for Local Governments in 2011, the position he occupied until his appointment by the State Governor.
