Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme will take part in the second edition of the Velo Birmingham & Midlands cycling event to raise funds for charity.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper who is currently recuperating from Leukaemia will join over 17,000 cyclists that will take part in the 100-mile and 42-mile event on May 12.

They will be cycling around Birmingham, Coventry, Solihull, and North Warwickshire.

Organisers of the event anticipate around £2 million will be raised for core charities; Alzheimer’s Society, Cure Leukaemia, NSPCC and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity, as well as many other charitable causes supported by individual riders and teams.

“Soo… I signed up to do the 100-mile @velobirmingham bike ride event this Sunday. I will be riding with the doctors and nurses from ward 19 heartlands where I’m still currently getting treated,” Ikeme wrote on Instagram.

“Our aim is to improve the facilities to help patients get treated, with isolation units and @dkms_uk harvesting unit also. I will put the link in my bio if any of you would be so kind to donate! Let’s see how it goes #charity.”
