The Oyo State House of Assembly has also called for the engagement of Nigerian Legion Corps Commissionaires and Vigilante Group of Nigeria to beef up security in the state.

The house equally rejected the proposed Harmonized South West Houses of Assembly Rules and Orders.

The Deputy Speaker and Chairman, Ad-Hoc Committee on Harmonization, Hon. AbdulWasi Musah disclosed this while presenting the committee’s report to the whole House at the plenary held on May 23rd, 2019.

He said that the Oyo State House of Assembly should maintain the constitution of the Parliamentary Council as one of the special committees of the House.

The Deputy Speaker noted that the proposed Harmonized Rules and Orders has no provision for the parliamentary structure and also that its process of consideration and amendment are too rigid.

Hon. Musah, therefore, suggested that the issue of amendment of the Rules and Standing Orders should be recommended at the next South West Conference of the Houses of Assembly for the purpose of flexibility to meet up with exigency situations.

On the issue of security, the Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to the executive arm of government to engage the services of the Nigerian Legion and Vigilante Group of Nigeria to beef up security in the state.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Joshua Olagunju Ojo, while passing resolution on the motion moved by the Deputy Majority Leader and Member, representing Afijio state constituency, Hon. Adeleke Oyatokun on the ‘Need for Oyo State Government to Boost Security of Lives and Properties by Engaging the Services of the Nigerian Legion Corps Commissionaires’, disclosed that it is imperative at this point in time for the state government to engage the services of Vigilante Groups and Nigerian Legion to assist other security operatives in their task to curb criminal activities.

Hon. Oyatokun in his argument stated that the recent activities of kidnappers and armed robbers in some neighboring states like Osun and Ekiti states call for concern, and necessitate a call for joint task force of all security experts.
